The interior of the Orphanage, where the Dickensian Mr Cotton ( Lennie James) usefully employs the children as an unpaid labour force, is a mix of studio sets and two practical locations. K's investigation into the possible birth of a child to replicants takes him south of 'Los Angeles' to the municipal waste processing district of ‘San Diego’, where his Spinner is brought down in a seemingly endless scrapyard. The exterior is a streamlined block in central Budapest, which you'll find at the southeast junction of Szalay and Honvéd streets, near the Neprajzi Muzeum of Ethnography. Now K lives in a noisy, crowded, graffiti-sprayed complex. Back in the day, Deckard’s apartment was based on the wonderful Ennis House in LA. It seems times are hard for Blade Runners in 2049. With minute attention to detail, each graphic display is individually designed and lit. The director is also helping to develop FX’s Alien series with the Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley. Scott is coming off the back of a busy year with the release of both The Last Duel and House of Gucci. Reviews have been mixed, with the AV Club’s Sam Barsanti writing that “there isn’t really a compelling hook here aside from the Blade Runner bit in the title”.īlade Runner 2049 received strong reviews but was a box office disappointment making $259m globally from a budget that was estimated to be between $150-185m. It will mark the second Blade Runner television show after last year’s anime series Blade Runner: Black Lotus which is set in 2032. The series was reportedly brought to market last fall with Amazon pouncing and developing it further as a priority. In November, Scott confirmed that the show was in development and a pilot had been written. Scott directed the much-loved 1982 adaptation Blade Runner and is set to executive-produce the new series with the potential for him to also direct.
